Covering the historic strike

A curated selection of images I took in NYC during the historic 2023 SAG-AFTRA/WGA strike.

My proudest personal accomplishment as a photojournalist has been covering the historic 2023 Writer's Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA (The Screen Actors Guild–American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) strikes in NYC, multiple times a week for nearly six months.

The WGA strike began on May 2, 2023 after failed contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Due to stalled contract negotiations with the AMPTP, the SAG-AFTRA strike began shortly afterwards, on July 14, 2023.

For months, members and supporters of both organizations brought their demands for fair contract negotiations to daily, weekday picket lines around the nation. Actors, screenwriters, directors, producers, crew members, and others in solidarity marched for their livelihoods at prominent locations, including outside of various studio corporate headquarters and backlots.

I primarily covered the strike at 888 Broadway in New York, NY, outside of the Warner Bros. Discovery and Netflix Corporate Headquarters. I started covering the WGA strike in late May, and continued to cover the remaining months of their strike, and the entirety of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

The WGA remained on strike for 148 days, finally coming to a tentative agreement with the AMPTP on September 27, 2023. SAG-AFTRA remained on strike until November 9, 2023, after they reached their own tentative agreement with the AMPTP. After 118 days, it is now known as the longest general strike for TV and film actors in the guild's history.
